I thought that I sent you these instructions before in some previous private
message. Maybe I forgot. There it goes anyway. Please tell me if some part
isn't clear or throws an error. These instructions are tested with Knoppix
3.6 installed to hard disk.

You need a source that contains libmotif deb package.

The file /etc/apt/sources.list enumerates the active sources. You can add new
sources there: url, file cdrom...

If you installed Woody from CD, sources.list must point to the CDROM reader.

If you use Knoppix, libmotif could be downloaded from the URLs already present
in its sources.list. You need to be connected to the net in order to install
from them.

Knoppix is mostly Sarge, so I guess that a Sarge CD would probably work also.

If the sources are properly configured and you issue apt-get install libmotif,
then you will be prompted that certain packages will be uninstalled:

  lesstif2 nedit xpdf xpdf-reader

lesstif is a Motif replacement, nedit an old text editor that uses Motif, and
xpdf a PDF browser. I can live without them, so I answered "yes" and libmotif
was installed.

ln -s libXm.so

That was all.
